The problem we solve

You can't trap your way out of this one

Common question

Can you remove a possum from my roof legally in NSW?

Yes, but possums are protected under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act, so they cannot be relocated away from the property. Licensed removal uses a one-way exit so the possum leaves on its own, followed by sealing every roofline entry point and cleaning down affected areas so the scent doesn't attract another one.

01

What you notice

It sounds like someone walking on the ceiling, because roughly speaking, someone is. Then comes the smell - urine soaking through the plaster in the hallway - and the stains, and the realisation that whatever is up there has been up there a while and has probably had young.

02

Why it keeps coming back

Here's what most people don't know until they've already bought a trap: possums are protected native wildlife in NSW. Relocating one away from its territory is illegal, and it's also pointless - a released possum in unfamiliar territory usually doesn't survive, and the empty roof it left behind still smells like home to the next one in the neighbourhood.

03

How we solve it

The legal fix is also the permanent one. We inspect the roofline to find every access point, install a one-way exit so the possum leaves under its own steam once we've confirmed there are no dependent young trapped inside, then seal the entries properly - broken tiles, eave gaps, fascia junctions, valley returns and gable ends. Affected areas are cleaned down so the scent trail doesn't advertise a vacancy.

Sealed access points come with a proofing warranty. We don't do Band Aid Jobs, We Solve Them!

A quiet roof, legally

One-way exit and exclusion under NSW wildlife law - no relocation, no risk to you.

Every entry sealed

Broken tiles, eave and fascia gaps, valley returns and gable ends closed, with a proofing warranty on the work.

The smell dealt with

Affected areas cleaned down so the scent doesn't draw the next possum straight back in.

Young accounted for

We confirm there are no dependent joeys inside before anything is sealed.

How much does possum removal cost?

Quoted after a roofline inspection, because the cost sits in the proofing work rather than the removal. The fixed price and the sealed points are confirmed in writing before we start.

What the job involves

properly, once

No shortcuts. We treat the source, not the symptom, and every step is documented so you know exactly what you paid for.

The Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) and Common Ringtail Possum (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) are protected native animals in NSW. We carry out licensed one-way removal, seal every entry point in the roofline, and clean down affected areas so the scent doesn't draw another one in.

  • 02

Includes a proofing warranty on sealed access points.

Our method

How we handle possum removal

We don't do Band Aid Jobs, We Solve Them!

  1. 01

    Identify the species

We confirm whether you have a Common Brushtail Possum or a Common Ringtail Possum first. Brushtails are the heavier, noisier roof dwellers; ringtails are smaller and usually build a drey in dense foliage.

  2. 02

    Inspect the roofline

We find every access point - broken tiles, gaps at the barge and eaves, unsealed valleys, and overhanging branches giving them the jump.

  3. 03

    One-way removal

A one-way door or trap set to licence conditions lets the possum leave without being able to return, with no harm to the animal.

  4. 04

    Seal the roof

Every entry point is sealed properly. This is the step that determines whether the problem comes back next month.

  5. 05

Give it somewhere else to go

Where appropriate we install a nest box in the yard so the displaced Common Brushtail or Ringtail Possum has legitimate harbourage nearby.

  6. 06

    Clean down and warrant

Soiled areas are cleaned to remove scent trails that attract the next possum, and sealed access points are warranted.

Why it's different out here

Mount Annan and Elderslie sit alongside the Australian Botanic Garden and the Nepean corridor, so Common Brushtail Possum pressure on rooflines is constant. Tile roofs on older Narellan Vale homes and mature trees overhanging newer estates give possums easy access - trimming branches back from the roofline is usually recommended alongside the proofing work.

Call 0450 105 702
01Can you relocate the possum somewhere else?

No. Common Brushtail and Common Ringtail possums are protected native animals in NSW and licence conditions require release on or very near the property where they were captured. Relocating them further away is illegal and, because possums are territorial, it's also a death sentence for the animal. Sealing the roof is the only lasting fix.

02How much does possum removal cost?

We quote the removal visit and roofline inspection as a fixed price before booking. Proofing and sealing work is quoted after inspection because it depends on how many access points there are and how the roof is built. Request a free quote for a same-day answer.

03How long does the whole job take?

Usually two visits - removal and roofline inspection first, then proofing and sealing, followed by a check that the roof is secure.

04Is the removal harmful to the possum?

No. One-way doors and traps are set to licence conditions so the Common Brushtail Possum or Common Ringtail Possum leaves under its own power and is not injured or distressed unnecessarily.

05Will it just come back?

Not if the roof is sealed properly and the scent trails are cleaned down. Sealed access points come with a warranty - that's the whole point of doing it this way rather than just removing the animal.

06Common Brushtail Possum or Common Ringtail Possum - does it matter?

Yes. Common Brushtail Possums are the heavier, noisier roof dwellers you hear thumping at dusk. Common Ringtail Possums are smaller, usually build a leaf-and-twig drey in dense shrubs or trees, and are less likely to be inside the roof. The approach differs, so we identify which native species you have first.

07Is possum urine in the ceiling a health problem?

Concentrated urine and droppings hold odour, can stain and eventually damage ceiling sheeting, and attract insects. We clean down affected areas and advise if any ceiling material needs replacing.

08Do I need council approval?

No, but the work must be carried out under the relevant NSW licence conditions for handling protected wildlife. We handle that compliance as part of the job.
