Common question

How do you get rid of rats in a roof?

Rats are removed by combining baiting with exclusion. We find the runways, droppings and entry points, install lockable tamper-resistant stations where children and pets can't reach, then give you a written proofing list - gaps, eave junctions, weep holes, pipe penetrations - because baiting alone leaves the door open for the next rat.

01

What you notice

Everybody notices the noise first - that scurry across the ceiling right above the bed, always at the worst hour. What they don't see is the rest of it: chewed wiring in the roof void, shredded and soiled insulation, contaminated dust dropping through downlights, and droppings behind the pantry.

02

Why it keeps coming back

Rodents cost far more than the sleep they take. Gnawed cabling is a genuine fire risk, contaminated insulation eventually needs replacement, and rats carry pathogens through the same roof space that feeds air into your home. Meanwhile a supermarket snap trap in the ceiling catches one rat out of a population that is already breeding.

03

How we solve it

We treat it as two jobs at once. First, control: locate the runways, rub marks, droppings and nesting areas, then install lockable tamper-resistant stations positioned where rodents actually travel and where children and pets can never reach them. Second - the part most operators skip - exclusion: every entry point identified and written into a proofing list, from eave junctions and weep holes to pipe penetrations, roller-door seals and broken tile lines.

Where contamination is significant we can arrange roof-void clean-down and insulation advice. We don't do Band Aid Jobs, We Solve Them!

Silence in the ceiling

Population knocked down at the runways and harbourage instead of one trap in the middle of the roof.

Entry points closed

A written proofing list of every gap we found, so the next rat has nowhere to get in.

Safe around kids and pets

Lockable, tamper-resistant stations placed out of reach and recorded on your service report.

Damage stopped early

Advice on chewed wiring, contaminated insulation and roof-void clean-down where the mess has gone too far.

How much does rodent control cost?

Quoted on the size of the property, the number of stations required and whether proofing work is included, with a fixed price before we begin.

What the job involves

Our method

How we handle rodent control

We don't do Band Aid Jobs, We Solve Them!

  1. 01

    Track the activity

Droppings, rub marks, gnawing and runways tell us the species, the population size and the route they're using.

  2. 02

    Find the way in

Roof penetrations, tile gaps, weep holes, sub-floor vents, garage door seals, pipe entries and overhanging branches.

  3. 03

    Station and bait

Lockable tamper-resistant stations placed on runways where pets and children can't access them, and snap traps in roof voids where baiting isn't appropriate.

  4. 04

    Proof the building

A written list of every gap to seal, in priority order, so the next rodent can't take the vacancy.

  5. 05

    Re-check and clean down

We return to check take-up, remove carcasses where accessible, and advise on insulation replacement where contamination is significant.

Local knowledge

Why it's different out here

Roof rats (black rats) are the dominant roof-void species through South West Sydney and they move indoors as the weather cools from March through winter. Newer estates in Spring Farm and Mount Annan back onto reserves and drainage corridors, and mature trees overhanging rooflines in Narellan Vale give rats a direct highway into the roof - trimming those back is often the single most effective fix.

Call 0450 105 702
01Is rodent bait safe with a dog or cat in the house?

Yes, when it's done properly. All bait is secured inside lockable tamper-resistant stations that only open with a key and are placed where pets and children can't reach. In homes with working dogs or high-risk pets we can run a trap-only program instead.

02How long until the rats are gone?

Most properties are quiet within 7 to 14 days once bait is taken and entry points are sealed. Heavy roof-void infestations can take up to three weeks.

03How much does rodent control cost?

We quote each property individually and confirm the fixed price before booking. Every quote includes inspection, stations, baiting, the written proofing report and a follow-up check. Request a free quote for a same-day answer.

04Will there be a dead rat smell in the walls?

It's possible but uncommon. Rodents generally return to the nest, and roof-void carcasses are removed on the follow-up visit where accessible. The products we use encourage them to seek water, which reduces the chance of them dying in a cavity.

05What's the difference between a rat and a mouse problem?

Mice are curious and sample many food points, so multiple small bait placements work well. Rats are neophobic - wary of new objects - so stations may sit untouched for a few days before take-up begins. Droppings size is the quickest field indicator.

06How do rats get into a roof?

Overhanging branches, gaps at the eaves and barge boards, lifted or broken roof tiles, unsealed pipe and cable penetrations, weep holes, and gaps under garage and sub-floor doors. A rat only needs an opening the size of a 20-cent coin.

07Do I need to replace the insulation?

Only where contamination is significant. Heavily soiled batts hold odour and attract further activity, so we'll tell you honestly whether a clean-down is enough or whether replacement is worth it.

08Are rodents a health risk?

Yes. Rats and mice contaminate food and surfaces, carry disease organisms in their droppings and urine, and chewed wiring is a genuine fire risk.
